Uncovering the hidden costs of Communications

A Small to medium business (SMB) with a hundred employees could be leaking a huge £335,724 annually as result of communications barriers and latency. (according to a study commissioned by Siemens Enterprise)

Not addressing these everyday pains can increase operating costs, lead to unsatisfied customers and impair your businesses competitive advantage.In the same research commissioned by Siemens, SMB respondents were asked to detail their experiences and that of their colleagues. Listed are the top five pain points

  • Inefficient Coordination

  • Waiting for information

  • Unwanted Communcations

  • Customer Complaints

  • Barriers to Collaboration

It has been estimated that 40% of the working week is lost to these communications inefficiences.

When asked 41% of the respondents stated that having a system which could address these top 5 pain points was very or extremely high priority for their business.

The business environment in this information age continues to evolve. As this evolution occurs businesses need to

  • Service customers over broader geographic areas

  • Must provide more information, better service and improved collaboration

  • Must reduce response times and deliver goods, services and information faster.

No SMB is isolated from these expectancies. Employees are expected to be accessibe whether they are at their desks at work, working around the office, in a meeting, on the road, or working from home.

SMB employees are also highly mobile, going out to meet clients, trying to win new business or talking to suppliers. The research found that SMB’s placed a high or very high priority on improved communications for those mobile workers.

Unified IP communications is taking root with SMB’s, however over 60% of SMB’s currently do not currently employ a Unified Communications (UC) solutions.
